A Journey of Expertise and Cultural Heritage

From Iran, where art and rugs entwine,
With antique skills, Tehran Museum’s sign.
I flew to New Zealand, sky and sea to cross,
In '99, with dreams and little loss.
My hands still work the textures, fine and grand,
While studying the maps and laws of land.
Married here, three children are my pride,
In Kiwi home, where love does well reside.
From Persian to Turkish rugs, my care extends,
Repairing, washing, life with threads I mend.
If rugs intrigue, and more you wish to find,
Call (09) 815 9625, for tale designed.

At The Rug Guru, we don't just offer rug care and restoration services – we bring over 32 years of unwavering passion, hands-on experience, and cultural heritage into every thread and fiber we touch. Our locally owned and operated establishment is a testament to the dedication of Hamid, a true expert in the realm of Oriental rugs, tapestries, kilims, sumacs, and other exquisite textiles. With a profound understanding of the artistry and history behind each piece, Hamid has garnered a reputation as one of New Zealand's foremost authorities on the care, restoration, and enhancement of these handmade treasures.

A Journey of Expertise and Cultural Heritage

Born in Iran, a land steeped in the tradition of rug and carpet weaving that spans centuries, Hamid's journey into the world of textile restoration began early. His upbringing immersed in a society where weaving was an intrinsic part of the cultural fabric, laid the foundation for his deep appreciation and understanding of these artful creations. His formal education and qualification at the esteemed Tehran Museum in Iran further honed his skills, equipping him with the knowledge and techniques that have now become his hallmark. Upon arriving in New Zealand, Hamid's academic pursuits led him to delve into Human Geography & International Politics, and he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Geography from Auckland University. Yet, his heart was always intertwined with the world of rugs. While supporting himself by working with some of Auckland's top dealers in fine handmade rugs, Hamid was inexorably drawn back to his true calling – the meticulous care and restoration of hand-knotted rugs and carpets.

A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

At the heart of The Rug Guru's success lies Hamid's relentless commitment to enhancing ancient techniques with the modern processes and materials he discovered in New Zealand. He recognized the unique challenges that rugs face in Auckland's climate – the potent sun, humidity, and the companionship of beloved cats and dogs. These insights led Hamid to develop innovative solutions that not only preserve the authenticity of these cherished textiles but also ensure their durability and longevity for generations to come.

A Master's Touch: Guarantee of Excellence

Today, Hamid stands as a master of his craft, a testament to his dedication and the seamless merging of age-old traditions with contemporary methods.
